Just for a change I thought I’d write about some ingredients that are natural, organic & good for you!
Cacao butter, or theobroma oil, is a pale-yellow, edible vegetable fat extracted from the cocoa bean which is used to make chocolate, ointments & toiletries. Cocoa butter has a cocoa flavour & aroma & contains a high proportion of saturated fats, derived from stearic and palmitic acids.
Organic Coconut Oil has hundreds of uses: can be eaten, [getting great results with alzheimers patients] added to coffee instead of milk, used as a skin moisuriser, nappy [diaper] cream, gets rid of cradle cap, great sunscreen, hair conditioner, good for thyroid function, home made deodorant, toothpaste, oil pulling etc etc…
Organic Shea Butter is fabulous for all skin care as it penetrates deep into the skin & speeds up cell renewal. Its is good for treating eczema, psoriasis, stretch marks, sensitive skin, babies & can be used on the hands, body, feet, lips hair & scalp.
I make my own body butter by using 4 tablespoons of shea butter whisked together with 2 tablespoons of coconut oil. You can use the same amount of each – it just depends on your preference & your skin. What feels too oily on some is just right for others so just experiment until you get a product you love. Store in an airtight glass jar.
Another version is equal amounts of cacao butter, shea butter & coconut oil whisked together. You can whisk with a fork or use an electric hand whisk. Some people like to add a couple of teaspoons of olive oil & castor oil too.
My recommendation is just have fun & enjoy using edible body butter!
